HACKENSACK, NJ - Bergen County (N.J.) Executive Kathleen Donovan delivered a State of the County address March 15 that detailed significant savings as a result of changes to fleet operations.

In her speech, Donovan said the state had significantly reduced its fleet throughout the county, resulting in savings of more than $649,000.

"We have changed the past culture where so many county employees were taking vehicles home. We've done this from the top down. No one on my staff or any department heads or directors have county cars. Those days are over," she said.

The City also saved $70,000 by bidding vehicle purchases instead of automatically buying vehicles under the New Jersey state contract.

In addition, the county grossed $446,000 through the resale of more than 120 cars conducted at two auctions. Other savings include $133,000 with downsizing and the installation of GPS in vehicles.
