While one-third of respondents said they do not have a succession plan in place for fleet, about two-thirds already have one or are working on one. Some fleets don't have a succession plan because the position is elected or appointed.

More than one-third of survey respondents said they plan to retire in five years or less. Those who are already retired but continue working at their agencies (a small number) are included in the "Less than 1 year" category.

Those within five years of retirement are more likely to have a succession plan in place than those further away from retirement.

About two-thirds of survey respondents said they plan to stay at their agencies until retirement or leaving the industry.

Survey respondents who plan to stay at their agencies until retirement are closer to retirement than thos ewho aren't or are unsure. This year, survey results show that those with hgiher salaries are more likely to leave their current position, possibly reflecting well paid, sought-after fleet managers open to other opportunities.
