2016 Fleet Age and Utilization
Refuse truck age increased slightly while police vehicles and dump truck age decreased slightly in comparison to statistics from last year (which averaged 2012-2014 data).
Police vehicle and refuse trucks continue to have the highest utilization.
Annual maintenance costs have risen for all types of vehicles. Higher utilization in 2015 as well as higher vehicle age across many vehicle types led to this increase.
Maintenance cost per mile has risen for every single vehicle category shown in this chart compared to the prior year's published data.
The annual number of hours needed to maintain each piece of equipment has increased for the majority of vehicle types, possibly due to slightly higher age.
Refuse trucks have the lowest fuel economy, followed by fire equipment.
