This table shows the average miles traveled per vehicle in fiscal year 2020. Truck utilization increased slightly over the prior year, while passenger vehicle and “other vehicle” utilization decreased. Overall average utilization has decreased every year since 2017.

This table shows total fleet composition by fuel type as well as acquisitions in 2020. The total number of vehicles acquired has decreased every year since at least 2016. Agencies have increased the number of gasoline, hybrid, and gasoline low greenhouse gas (LGHG) vehicles it purchased in comparison to 2019. *Petroleum-fueled vehicles meeting EPA’s definition of low greenhouse gas (LGHG) vehicles may be considered alternative fuel vehicles when acquired for use in locations where alternative fuel is not available. Therefore, although these vehicles consume petroleum, agencies may consider them alternative fuel vehicles in the limited circumstances described.
