GFX Road Show 2014: City of San Diego, Calif.

Deputy Director of Fleet Services John Clements is pictured here in his office.

The city already has about 80 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles in service, and 80 were recently delivered, including this one, which is being upfitted for service.

A fleet technician works on one of the city's new Toyota lifeguard vehicles. Toyota loans the city 35 trucks as part of a corporate sponsorship program. The new trucks are the second group of vehicles to arrive and will be used by the city for two years.

This facility, where the main fleet administration offices are housed, is right next to the San Diego Police Department's gun range, so it's not surprising to hear guns going off nearby.

In addition to doing work on its own vehicles, the San Diego city fleet also works on vehicles from other agencies, such as the pictured law enforcement unit from the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. The white sedans are light-duty Fire Department vehicles used as administrative vehicles.

This armored swat vehicle was completely rebuilt by fleet technicians before being put into service.

GF Managing Editor Thi Dao interviews Clements for the GFX Road Show video while the film crew records.

The city still has about 600 Ford Crown Victoria police vehicles in service. These are being replaced by the Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle.

This machine is used by body and fender mechanics when frames are bent or when cars need to be stretched or pulled back into alignment.

The City of San Diego fleet consists of 4,020 units and employs 170 people.

This fuel island at the vehicle maintenance facility is used by the Police Department and only dispenses gasoline.
