Velociti has teamed up with CATrak Technologies to tackle catalytic converter theft. The companies have announced a patent-pending device that fleet owners can use to combat the increasingly prevalent threat of catalytic converter theft.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the thefts of catalytic converters increased drastically from 2020, with 16,600 claims, to 2022, with 64,701 claims.

A Carfax study estimates that as many as 153,000 vehicles had the part stolen in 2022.

Curbing Catalytic Converter Thefts

Available now for purchase and installation, the CATrak device immediately alerts vehicle owners, fleet managers, security personnel, and law enforcement to catalytic converter theft attempts.

In the event of a robbery attempt, if the CATrak harness is severed or subjected to vibration, it triggers an immediate activation of the siren, while simultaneously alerting the owner through the CATrak Mobile app.

Additionally, a GPS signal is initiated to precisely trace the catalytic converter's location online.

To ensure continuous functionality if tampered with, the CATrak module is equipped with an internal battery that provides up to three hours of power to maintain the GPS and communication capabilities.

Product features include:

  • Discreet installation within the engine compartment.

  • Powerful siren for alerting individuals in the vicinity.

  • Access to comprehensive service and technical support.

  • Cost-effective solution in comparison to alternative security systems.

“At Velociti, we believe that the right technology, when applied strategically, can bring about transformative solutions,” Velociti President Deryk Powell said. “Teaming up with CATrak aligns with our commitment to deliver tailored, effective solutions for our clients. By addressing the growing problem of catalytic converter theft, we are joining forces to help fleets ensure maximum uptime and utilization and safeguard their bottom line.”
