Alvarado

Aaron Alvarado, previously fleet manager at the City of Tempe, Ariz., is now fleet manager at Tacoma (Wash.) Public Utilities. He began his new position Feb. 11. He replaces Jonathan Edick, CAFM, who retired.

The Tacoma Public Utilities fleet consists of 1,100 units and is staffed by more than 30 employees.

Alvarado worked as the City of Tempe’s fleet manager for more than two years. He has 25 years of experience in maintenance and prior to joining Tempe, worked in the army as a battalion maintenance officer.

At the City of Tempe, he managed a fleet of 1,200 with a staff of 35. User departments include solid waste, fire, police, water, utilities, and parks and rec. During his time at Tempe, Alvarado was instrumental in getting approval for an update to the AssetWorks M5 fleet management system and an upgrade of six fuel sites with integrated control units (ICUs). He also helped obtain a grant for the installation a 12,000-gallon E-85 ethanol fuel tank for use on the City fleet vehicles and facilitated the procurement of five compressed natural gas (CNG) solid waste trucks, the City’s first investment in CNG. Additionally, Alvarado led the fleet to obtain 100 Best Fleets ranking two years in a row.

Kevin Devery, fleet analyst, is the interim fleet manager at the City of Tempe.
