Government Fleet has a roundup of recent recalls for vehicles common the public sector.

Altec Vehicles: Power Inverter Missing Circuit Breaker

Altec is recalling certain vehicles because the power inverter that converts electrical DC power to AC power may have been installed without a circuit breaker to protect the AC output circuit.

The recall includes the following 2022-2023 Aerial Devices:

• AT.

• TA.

• L44.

• L45.

• LR8.

• AA.

• AM.

• AN.

It also includes the following D series Digger Derricks:

• DH.

• DL.

• DM.

• DT.

Without a circuit breaker, the AC circuit may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

Altec will install a 20-amp circuit breaker in the AC circuit, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 22, 2023.

Chevrolet Bolts: Front Passenger Air Bag May Deploy Improperly

GM is recalling certain 2022-2023 Chevrolet Bolt EVs. The instrument panel may be missing the perforation on the underside of the panel cover that allows the passenger-side air bag to deploy properly. An air bag that does not deploy properly in a crash increases the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the instrument panel, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 25, 2023.

Daimler Trucks and Vans: Driveshaft May Break

Daimler is recalling certain vehicles due to a risk of a broken driveshaft under certain loading conditions. The recall includes the following 2023 models:

• Freightliner M2.

• FCCC MT 55G Walk in Van Chassis.

• FCCC S2C-106 Conventional Cab & Chassis.

• FCCC MC Chassis.

The recall also includes Thomas Built SAF-T-LINER C2 buses.

Dealers will replace the driveshafts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 30, 2023. 

Ford Trucks: Incorrect Rearview Camera Image May Display

Ford is recalling certain 2023 F-Super Duty F250, F350, and F450 vehicles equipped with the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature. The default rearview camera image may not be displayed when using the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature. An incorrect rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will update the Advanced Drive Assistance System module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 18, 2023.

Ford Vans: Front Door Latch Pawl May Crack

Ford is also recalling certain 2014-2016 Transit Connect vans. It's because the front door latch pawl may crack and prevent the door from latching. The recall affects an estimated 112,225 vehicles.

Dealers will inspect and replace the front door latches as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed Aug. 28, 2023.

GM Trucks: Steering Gear Shaft May Fracture

GM is recalling certain pickup truck models because the steering gear shaft may fracture and disconnect from the steering arm. The recall includes these 2024 models:

• Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

• Chevrolet Silverado 3500.

• GMC Sierra 2500.

• GMC Sierra 3500.

If the steering arm disconnects, drivers will lose all steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the steering gear, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 18, 2023. 

Hino Trucks: Inaccurate Fuel Gauge Reading

Hino is recalling certain trucks equipped with 70 or 90 gallon fuel tanks. The fuel sender float may deform and detach, which can lead to an inaccurate fuel gauge reading. The recall includes the following 2020-2024 models:

• NE7A. 

• NE7B.

• NE8A.

• NH9A.

• NJ7A.

• NJ7B.

• NJ8A.

• NJ8J. 

• NV7A.

• NV7B.

• NV8A.

An inaccurate fuel gauge may result in the vehicle unexpectedly running out of fuel and stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the fuel sender gauge, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 6, 2023. 

Isuzu Trucks: Loss of Engine Power from Electrical Corrosion

Isuzu is recalling certain trucks due to potential risk of ignition coil pack fuse corrosion, which can cause a misfire and loss of engine power, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall includes the following vehicles:

• 2023-2024 NPR Gas.

• 2023-2024 NPR HD Gas.

• 2024 NQR Gas.

• 2024 NRR Gas.

• 2023-2024 Chevrolet LCF 3500HG.

• 2023-2024 Chevrolet LCF 4500HG.

• 2024 Chevrolet LCF 5500HG.

• 2024 Chevrolet LCF 5500XG.

The issue may have been caused by an incorrectly sized wire seal for the two externally mounted engine ignition coil pack fuse holders on the chassis harness. It can allow water intrusion and cause the fuses to corrode.

Dealers will replace both engine ignition coil pack fuse holder assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 29, 2023.

Navistar Trucks: Driveshaft May Break

Navistar is recalling certain 2023 International MV and International HV vehicles. The driveshafts can break under certain loading conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the driveshafts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 16, 2023. 

Shyft Vehicles: Incorrectly Connected Battery Cables

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2023 Utilimaster Upfit vehicles. The battery cable connections for the electrical harness may be connected incorrectly, causing the circuit protection on the cables to be ineffective. Without circuit protection, a short circuit on the negative cable can increase the risk of a fire.

Service centers will install the cables and wires correctly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed in Aug. 2023.
