January 2025 Recall Roundup: Ford, Tesla, & More

The Tesla Model Y, Ford F-650, and Orange EV e-TRIEVER are among the latest vehicles recalled.

Many of this month's recalls include vehicle safety technology and other safety features.

Government Fleet has a roundup of the latest recalls of popular public sector fleet vehicles and equipment.

Altec Aerial Devices: Front Axle Load May Fail

Altec is recalling certain 2017-2024 Ford E-350 van chassis equipped with a AT200A aerial devices. 

The units mounted on certain Ford E-350 van chassis with Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) of 4050 and 4200 lbs., may fail at high loads due to a defect in the front axle.

Ford dealers will install front springs, insulators, and nuts, free of charge. Additionally, a new label will be provided to indicate the upgraded gross axle weight rating. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 14, 2025.

Ford Cars and SUVs: Rearview Camera Image May Not Display

Ford is recalling certain 2019 Flex, Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT vehicles. The rearview camera may intermittently display a blank or distorted image. The recall affects an estimated 30,715 vehicles.

A remedy is under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 3, 2025.

Ford SUVs: High Voltage Battery May Short Circuit

Ford is also recalling an estimated 20,484 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair SUVs. A manufacturing defect in one or more of the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure.

Dealers will perform a battery energy control module (BECM) software update, and replace the high voltage battery pack, as necessary, free of charge. 

Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed Jan. 15, 2025.

Ford Trucks: High Pressure Fuel Pump May Fail

Ford is also recalling nearly 296,000 pickup trucks due to a concern with the high pressure fuel pump. Biodiesel deposits may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which could lead to failure of the pump.

The recall includes 2020-2022 Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, and 2021-2022 F-650 and F-750 vehicles. 

Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed Jan. 9, 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available.

Chevrolet Trucks: Insufficient Pedestrian Warning Sound

General Motors is recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV work trucks. The pedestrian alert sound system may not produce sound at a sufficient volume.

Dealers will update the software in the body control module (BCM), free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 3, 2025.

Chrysler: Side Curtain Air Bag Inflators May Rupture

Chrysler is recalling certain 2016-2019 Ram 3500, Ram 1500, 2016-2020 Ram 2500, and 2016 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis vehicles. The right and left side curtain air bag inflators may rupture due to a manufacturing defect.

Dealers will replace one or both side curtain air bags, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 13, 2025.

General Motors: Adaptive Cruise Control May Not Activate Brakes

General Motors is recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV all-wheel drive electric vehicles. The adaptive cruise control may fail to engage the brakes as expected, due to incorrect brake module software.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 2,890

Dealers will update the software calibration in the brake system control module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 3, 2025.

GM: Seat Belt Assembly Bolt Improperly Tightened

GM is also recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV and 2024-2025 GMC Sierra EV pickup trucks. The bolt that secures the rear center seat belt assembly to the seat structure may not have been properly tightened.

GM will tighten the bolt that attaches the center seat belt assembly to the rear seat structure, free of charge. All affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory and, therefore, no owner letters will be mailed.

Orange EV Trucks: Missing Front Marker Light Reflectors, Frame Extenders Obstruct Rear Lights, & Beavertail Frame Obstructs Reverse Lights

Orange EV is recalling over 200 2023-2024 HUSK-e, 2023-2025 e-TRIEVER, and 2017-2024 T-Series trucks. The front side marker lights may be missing, and the passenger front side reflectors may be in the incorrect location. 

Orange EV is also recalling another 86 vehicles built with frame extenders. The frame extenders obstruct the rear turn signals, reverse, brake, and taillights.

Impacted vehicles include the 2023-2024 HUSK-e, 2023-2024 e-TRIEVERs, and 2021-2023 T-Series trucks that have frame extenders.

Lastly, Orange EV is recalling 23 2023-2024 e-TRIEVER and 2022-2023 T-Series trucks built with beavertail frames. The end of the beavertail frame may obstruct the center of the reverse lights.

Fleet owners are advised to limit on-road use while operating without a trailer until the remedy is available.  Interim owner notification letters for all three recalls explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed Feb. 17, 2025. 

Tesla EVs: Rearview Camera Image May Fail & Air Bag May Tear During Deployment

Tesla is recalling nearly 240,000 electric vehicle models. The computer circuit board may short, resulting in the loss of the rearview camera image.

The recall includes certain 2024-2025 Model 3, Model S, 2023-2025 Model X, and 2023-2025 Model Y vehicles. 

Tesla released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Tesla will also identify any vehicles that experienced a circuit board failure, or stress that may lead to a circuit board failure, and replace the affected computers, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 7, 2025.

Additionally, Tesla is recalling almost 300 2024-2025 Model S and Model X vehicles. The driver's air bag could tear during deployment. 

Tesla service will replace the air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 21, 2025.
