A variety of vehicles and equipment popular among public sector fleets have been recalled by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration in the last month. Government Fleet has a roundup of those recalls, so you can see if your fleet is affected.

Various Trucks and Buses: Incorrect Heat Treatment Can Cause Tie Rod Failure

Multiple manufacturers are recalling several vehicle makes and models equipped with Composolite EXS20 steerable lift axle suspension assemblies. The tie rod assembly ball stud could have been improperly heat treated and can fail. The recall includes the following 2025 models:

  • Freightliner Cascadia

  • Freightliner 114SD

  • Western Star 47X

  • Western Star 49X transit bus

  • Mack LR

  • Mack Granite

  • Mack Pinnacle

  • Volvo VN

  • Volvo VHD

Dealers will replace the tie rod assembly, free of charge.

Notification letters for some of the involved models have already gone out. Others are slated to go out in the coming months.

Altec Trucks: A/C Hoses May Overheat and Cause a Fire

Altec is recalling certain Green Fleet trucks equipped with its Jobsite Energy Management (JEMS) units. Trucks with the 2021-2024 JEMS S's and JEMS SE's are included in the recall.

Inadequate clearance between the A/C hoses and the engine exhaust manifold may result in the hoses overheating.

Altec will install a remedy kit to secure the hose routing farther away from the exhaust manifold, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 23, 2024.

Arboc Buses: Seat Back Malfunction

Arboc is recalling certain 2023-2024 Spirit of Freedom, Spirit of Independence, and Spirit of Mobility buses equipped with certain GO-ES Space Saver Foldaway Seats. The recliner mechanism may not engage when the seat back is fully reclined.

The latest recalled buses are among a larger recall of vehicles equipped with the same seats. See which vehicles have previously been recalled here.

Arboc will work with the equipment manufacturer, Freedman, to inspect and repair the seats as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in July 2024.

Autocar Xpeditor Vehicles: Road Hazard from Cab Tilt Hinge Pin Detachment

Autocar is recalling certain 2023-2024 ACX Xpeditor vehicles. The retaining ring could be missing from the cab tilt hinge pin, leaving the pin unsecured. An unsecured pin can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the cab tilt pin and replace the retaining ring as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 2, 2024.

Daimler Trucks: Brake Lights May Fail to Illuminate

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2023-2024 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2C 106 and 2024-2025 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2RV 106 vehicles. The brake lights may not illuminate when the brakes are automatically applied during an active brake assist (ABA) event.

The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 1, 2024.

Daimler Vans: Improperly Heat-Treated Rear Axle Spring U-Bolts

Daimler Vans is recalling certain 2023-2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. The spring U-bolts for the rear axle may have reduced strength due to improper heat-treatment, which can cause the rear axle to shift out of position.

Dealers will replace the spring U-bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in Sept. 6, 2024.

E-One Fire Trucks: Lower Control Arm Retention Fasteners Can Fail

E-One is recalling certain 2024 Cyclone N and Typhoon N fire trucks equipped with an independent front suspension assembly. The lower control arm retention bolts could become brittle and break after being tightened.

Dealers will replace the bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 5, 2024.

Ford Trucks: Unexpected Downshift Can Cause Loss of Control & Loss of Steering Control from Tie Rod Failure

Ford is recalling certain 2014 F-150 pickup trucks. A loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into first gear, regardless of vehicle speed.

An estimated 552,188 vehicles are among those included in the recall.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 1, 2024.

Ford is also recalling certain 2025 F-Super Duty F-650 and F-750 trucks. The front axle tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.

Dealers will inspect and replace the front axle tie rod assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 13, 2024.

Ford Pickup Trucks: Windshield May Detach During a Crash

Ford is recalling certain 2024 F-150 pickup trucks. The windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, allowing it to detach during a crash.

Dealers will remove and reinstall the windshield, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 10, 2024

Ford SUVs: Misaligned Cruise Control Radar Module

Ford is also recalling certain 2023-2024 Escape two-wheel drive SUVs equipped with adaptive cruise control. The cruise control radar module was misaligned during production.

Misalignment of the radar module can result in the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) misclassifying an overhead object as an object in the vehicle's path, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly slow and/or stop.

Other safety systems that depend on the radar model, such as Pre-Collision Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Auto Emergency Braking, could have diminished or lost function. These conditions increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will adjust the angle of the radar module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 3, 2024.

GM EVs: Right Front Lower Control Arm May Fracture & High Voltage Battery May Catch Fire

General Motors is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EVs. The right front lower control arm may contain a manufacturing defect that can cause it to fracture.

Dealers will inspect and replace the right front lower control arm as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 13, 2024.

GM is also recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EVs and 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUVs that were previously remedied under recall number 21V-650. The advanced diagnostic software may have been incorrectly installed and fail to detect defective battery modules, possibly resulting in a battery fire.

Owners are advised to take the following interim steps:

  1. Set the Target Charge Level feature in their vehicle to limit the charge level to 90%

  2. Charge their vehicle more frequently

  3. Avoid depleting the battery to 70 miles range remaining

  4. Park outside after charging

  5. Do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight

Dealers will reinstall the advanced diagnostic software, free of charge. Owner notification letters for this recall are expected to be mailed on Aug. 5, 2024.

GM Pickup Trucks: Fuel Pump Improperly Secured to Fuel Tank Assembly

GM is also recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. The lock ring that secures the fuel pump to the fuel tank assembly may not have been fully locked during assembly, which can result in a fuel leak during a crash.

Dealers will inspect and fully lock the fuel tank lock ring as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 13, 2024.

Navistar Trucks: Loss of Steering Control from Tie Rod Failure

Navistar is recalling certain 2025 International HV, LT, MV, and RH trucks. Tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that may have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.

Dealers will replace the tie rod ends and realign the front axle, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 12, 2024.

REV Ambulances: Improperly Tightened Outrigger Bolts

REV Ambulance Group Orlando is recalling certain 2019-2024 Type I and Type IX emergency vehicles equipped with outriggers. The outrigger bolts may not be properly tightened, which can cause the module box to detach, or cause failure of the outrigger. An estimated 160 units are affected.

Dealers will inspect and tighten, or replace the outrigger bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed July 8, 2024.

Rivian SUVs and Trucks: Incorrect Weight Capacity on Label

Rivian is recalling certain 2022-2023 R1S SUVs and R1T trucks. The maximum vehicle capacity weight value on the tire placard label is incorrect. An estimated 600+ vehicles are included in the recall.

Rivian will mail owners a corrected overlay tire placard label, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 3, 2024.

SEA Electric Trucks: Battery Management Can Cause Loss of Drive Power

SEA Electric is recalling certain vehicles equipped with certain software versions from December 2022 and earlier. The battery management system (BMS) software can cause the high-voltage battery to shut down, resulting in a loss of drive power.

The recall includes the following makes and models:

  • 2023-2025 SEA Electric 5e

  • 2020-2022 Ford F59

  • 2020 Hino 195

  • 2019 Isuzu NRR

Dealers will update the BMS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 14, 2024.

Spartan Fire Trucks: Delayed Service Brake Engagement & Lower Control Arm Retention Fasteners Can Fail

Spartan Fire is recalling certain 2017-2019 Gladiator and 2018-2019 Metro Star fire trucks. The service brake may take longer than expected to engage.

Dealers will inspect and either replace the fittings and plumbing or the quick release valve as necessary, free of charge.

Spartan is recalling certain 2023-2024 Gladiator, 2024-2025 Metro Star and 2024 KME Panther fire trucks equipped with certain independent front suspension assemblies. The lower control arm retention bolts could become brittle and break after being tightened.

Spartan Fire will replace the bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters for both recalls are expected to be mailed Aug. 5, 2024.

Terex Bucket Trucks: Boom Basket Retaining Pin Failure

Terex is recalling certain 2020-2024 XT Pro vehicles equipped with replacement basket brackets. The replacement basket brackets may not be compatible with the original basket retaining pins and cause the basket to unintentionally tilt, increasing the risk of falling for basket occupants.

Dealers will replace the retaining pins, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 6, 2024.
