TORRANCE, CAGovernment Fleet magazine has named Corey Lane, Mechanic II with the City of Loveland, Colo.’s fleet management department, its Technician of the Month for October. Lane is an ASE-certified mechanic with more than 26 years of experience. He is also ASE Master Truck, ASE Master Automotive, and EVT Master Technician certified.

Lane is the primary technician for the Loveland Fire Authority’s 42 pieces of fire apparatus. He also diagnoses complex issues with heavy equipment for the fleet department. One of Lane’s key achievements in Loveland’s fleet department is his working relationship with the City’s fire department. Steve Kibler, fleet manager for the City, said two of Lane’s most valuable skills are his ability to perform vehicle and equipment system failure analysis and to come up with design improvements.

“Corey intuitively saw the weak link in this customer chain and proactively approached frontline firefighters with training on various system operations and mechanical design,” Kibler said. “Through this effort, Corey gained the respect and confidence of the entire dept. Firefighters began to trust Corey and more importantly, trust fleet to be their go-to service provider. Because Corey's skill and talent is so high, the comeback rate for fire apparatus has been zero - for years!”

Lane inspects one of Loveland's firefighting equipment assets.

Kibler said Lane conducts training to familiarize firefighters with various aspects of vehicle performance, such as heavy-duty ABS and how it functions, engine braking versus exhaust braking, how electrical load management systems work, and CSA 2010 and how it affects emergency equipment, among other types of training. Kibler added that Lane is a star player on the fire department’s amateur hockey team.

“Congratulations Bull Dog!” Kibler added.
