The Town of Windham, N.H., is using grant money to purchase new trucks that regulate the application of road salt, a change from its previous method of purchasing state Department of Transportation trucks deemed as surplus.
Two recently delivered trucks cost $315,000, but the town only paid $63,000, the Eagle Tribune reported. That's because an interstate highway planned for widening goes by the town, giving it access to federal grants in order to "contain road salt use."
The town is going out to bid for a third truck, and a fourth truck may also be purchased.
