SAN DIEGO - Southern California police fleets are testing out a new brake system from PureForge, a corporation that develops clean brake products, through its Police Department Pilot Program. The company outfitted motorcycles in ten police departments with their brake rotors, which according to the company, promise no wear, no brake dust emissions, and improved brake performance.

The program outfits motorcycles in each participating department for rigorous field testing. Fleet managers installed the brakes on the motorcycles of the most abusive, aggressive police riders in the department.

The company states that officers in the program have reported that PureForge brakes perform better, produce less brake dust, and show much less wear than the stock brakes.

"I really like the way these PureForge brakes feel, very smooth and quick to stop," said San Diego Sheriff Motor Sergeant Scott Hill, who is pilot testing PureForge brakes on his Honda motorcycle. "I like the fact they don't shed brake dust; our officers are responsible for keeping their bikes washed and clean. Not having to deal with the brake dust is going to make my guys very happy."

Craig Miller, fleet manager of the Huntington Beach Police Department, told GF the department installed the rotors (front and rear) on a 2009 Honda ST1300 in July. By late November, the vehicle had accumulated 2,700 miles on the pads & rotors.

"We show a little wear on the pad, but not as much as what the vehicle would normally use," Miller reported, stating pad wear was about half of what would normally be seen on a vehicle with this mileage. He stated the rotors showed no sign of wear and there was very little brake dust.

"We're happy with them so far. I'd like to see more miles on our test bike," he said.

Other police departments are currently in pilots or have recently completed their pilot programs include: San Diego Sheriff's, Anaheim PD, Escondido Sheriff's, San Diego PD, Beverley Hills PD, Bakersfield PD, Culver City PD, Sturgis PD South Dakota, and Sioux Falls PD South Dakota. PureForge has agreements in place to outfit several more police departments in the upcoming weeks.
