“Safety is our top priority at Republic Services, and as the operator of one of the nation’s largest fleets, we do everything we can to be safe on America’s roadways,” said Jim Olson, vice president of safety, Republic Services.

Together for Safer Roads (TSR), a global corporate social accelerator bringing together public and private organizations to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities, and the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), a trade association representing private sector U.S. waste and recycling companies, announced Sept. 8 a partnership with the objective of finding innovative solutions to make roads safer for all users.

“We are all road users, whether driving for personal or professional reasons, walking, or biking. Having the support of essential industries is critical to the success of any Vision Zero initiative,” stated David Braunstein, president, Together for Safer Roads.

TSR’s “FOCUS'' on Fleet Safety Initiative will encourage the development of safety cultures in smaller, local operators, and NWRA’s safety programs are focused on making trash collection processes and disposal operations less dangerous. TSR and NWRA have a desire to make fleet safety resources developed by TSR available to NWRA’s membership base and to incorporate relevant NWRA safety resources into the TSR program.

“Safety is our top priority at Republic Services, and as the operator of one of the nation’s largest fleets, we do everything we can to be safe on America’s roadways,” said Jim Olson, vice president of safety, Republic Services. “We are proud to be the first recycling and waste services provider to partner with Together for Safer Roads, and we welcome NWRA to the coalition.”

NWRA CEO and President Darrell K. Smith shared, “Roadway and vulnerable road user safety is a complicated issue that requires bringing together all industries, vulnerable road users, and government agencies. Together for Safer Roads has shown it can create this coalition to make our roads safer for all involved.”
