Matt Stewart, CAFM, has been named the equipment rental & revolving fund (fleet) manager for Jefferson County, Wash., responsible for management of the county's vehicle and equipment fleet.

Previously, Stewart was a senior automotive equipment analyst at the City of Chicago Department of Fleet and Facility Management, responsible for the purchase of a variety of fleet vehicles and equipment as well as drafting specifications for fleet services including environmental vehicle retrofits, car sharing services, and the build out of the City's network of alternative-fuel stations.

Major projects included diesel-exhaust retrofit testing and implementation; medium- and heavy-duty hybrid truck development and purchasing; turnkey purchases of police and other vehicles; the expenditure of Recovery Act funds for the City’s law-enforcement fleet, diesel truck fleet and alternative-fuel infrastructure; and the development and fielding of the City's first electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

Stewart’s earliest work in fleet management was with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, a fleet with a 100% alternative-fuel program and a centralized fleet replacement program that reduced costs and reduced the age of the fleet. As assistant to the fleet services manager, he administered the details of the district’s fleet budgeting, purchasing, remarketing, data collection and analysis, grant applications and alternative-fuels purchases, and retrofits.

Stewart was the recipient of a 2011 Chicago Magazine Green Award and was a long-standing member of the board of Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition, one of the longest standing and most successful organizations in the U.S. Dept. of Energy Clean Cities program. Stewart is a certified CNG cylinder inspector, an amateur-radio operator, and an officer in the Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.
