Increased waste and recycling collection rates for residents in Centerville, Ohio, will help the city's fleet of refuse vehicles.
Beginning January 1, 2023, residents will see rates increase from $18 monthly to $24 monthly for regular pickups. Special waste pickups will increase from $35 per pickup to $50 per pickup.
Centerville Director of Public Works Patrick Turnbull told the City Council in a meeting on July 11 that the additional revenue will support the city's reinvestment in its fleet. He said the department has been able to sustained service by deferring some of its reinvestment in the waste fleet and in its container replacement program. He said the higher rate will help stabilize the fund. The city started its reinvestment into the fleet in 2019, but its solid waste rolling stock fund has not been replenished adequately due to the shortage in the revenue, a city spokesperson told Government Fleet.
The city's aim is to replace vehicles within the waste fleet after they are eight years old, according to a news release. The current fleet is 9 years old.
