Annette Spitsbergen, fleet manager for the Wyoming state motor pool, will retire in November. Her last day is Nov. 6.

Spitsbergen has more than 40 years of transportation experience and has served as the state fleet manager since 2002. She manages 1,200 vehicles across the state with a staff of seven. She coordinates vehicles and budgets for 75 agencies and 155 divisions and has worked on state legislation for hybrid and alternative fuel vehicle projects.

Spitsbergen recalls creating the state’s first vehicle reservation system with pencil and graph paper and has pushed the use of increasingly advanced technologies within the fleet, from mainframe computer, to mini, to PC, and now to cloud computing, she said.

With retirement on the horizon, Spitsbergen has launched several initiatives in the past year. This included implementing GPS telematics and online vehicle reservations. Spitsbergen reported that 50% of reservations were being made online within three months, and the state has more than 90% of its vehicles equipped with telematics in the same timeframe.

She is considering returning to the industry as a fleet consultant.

The position of state fleet manager has been posted on the Wyoming state Human Resources website.
