InterMotive Vehicle Controls, a manufacturer of electronic control systems, has introduced CATalert, an alarm designed to combat catalytic converter theft. Theft of the key vehicle component has risen in recent years.

CATalert works on any commercial vehicle chassis and will sound the horn if any attempt is made to remove the catalytic converter or disable the alarm system.

CATalert has the ability to report real-time tampering or theft using telematics devices, so fleet customers can instantly detect which vehicle is being assaulted and stop thieves from potentially wiping out an entire yard of vehicles.

The alarm consists of an in-cabin module and sensors attached to up to two catalytic converters on the vehicle. The output signal can activate interior lights or signal a telematics device.
