Government Fleet magazine has inducted three industry leaders into the Public Fleet Hall of Fame. The award, sponsored by Sourcewell, recognizes fleet leaders who have contributed significantly to the profession.

Fleet professionals, suppliers, and other members of the industry select the inductees via online ballot. Hall of Fame members must have at least 20 years of industry experience, including 10 years working for a public fleet or a private company contracted to manage a public fleet.

These three join the 31 pioneers who have been inducted into the Public Fleet Hall of Fame since its establishment in 2014. They were recognized at the 2019 Government Fleet Expo & Conference.

Tim Calhoun, CAFM, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, Fla.; City of Boynton Beach, Fla.; Florida Power and Light • Years in Fleet: 30

Tim Calhoun served on the board of the Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA), where he helped create nine technician scholarships and put on FLAGFA’s largest-ever conference. At Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, Calhoun oversaw a program to refurbish vehicles, saving his fleet more than $2 million.

Calhoun has served on advisory committees for Government Fleet and Palm Beach State College Automotive and Diesel Programs. He also served as chair for the NAFA Sunshine State chapter for two years and was awarded FLAGFA’s Presidential trophy.

Al Curtis, Cobb County, Ga. • Years in Fleet: 27

Al Curtis began his fleet career in the U.S. Army before joining the Cobb County fleet. At the county, he led a successful campaign to promote safe driving, and is leading the fleet’s transition to electric vehicles as well as a “free to charge” program for county employees.

Curtis and his fleet have been recognized by NAFA, the North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center, and the Leading Fleets and the 100 Best Fleets programs. He served as the chair of NAFA’s Atlanta chapter and sat on the Chattahoochee Technical School advisory board and the Atlanta Clean Cities advisory board.

Ron Kennedy, CEM, CPFP, Sarasota County, Fla.; Manatee County, Fla. • Years in Fleet: 25

Ron Kennedy began his fleet career as a technician in the U.S. Marine Corps, before transferring to local government and working his way up to fleet management. He provides innovative ideas and suggestions to continue pushing his fleet organization forward and keeping it modern.

Kennedy implemented a comprehensive lifecycle analysis during his first year managing the Sarasota County fleet, reducing the equipment capital budget by more than $2 million in one year. Under his leadership, the county received the Fleet Master award from the Association of Equipment Management Professionals. He received an Under 40 in Construction Equipment Award in 2014.
