The Tucson (Ariz.) Fire Department is seeking $34 million to repair and replace its aging fleet of fire trucks. About 83% of the fleet's vehicles have logged more than 100,000 miles, or are older than 10 years, and are due for replacement, reports Tucson News Now. In some cases, the fire trucks are so old replacement parts are no longer being made and the department must pull parts from older vehicles.

The city is planning an election in May for a half-cent sales tax increase, which would bring in about $150 million for the Police and Fire Departments. This would allow the Fire Department to replace its fire trucks and upgrade tools and equipment.
