ABM has been selected by the Alexandria Transit Company (DASH), the City of Alexandria’s public transit system, to provide EV charging infrastructure to support the agency’s expanding electric bus fleet.
Under the agreement, ABM provided and installed an in-route pantograph charger, power cabinets, electrical infrastructure, and civil foundation work. The system allows DASH buses to charge while in service, supporting continued operations and route flexibility.
“This project supports DASH as it expands its electric bus capabilities,” said Mark Hawkinson, president of Technical Solutions at ABM.
In-Route Charging Installation
The installation is part of the first phase of DASH’s broader fleet electrification plan. DASH reports transporting more than 15,000 riders daily and more than 5.3 million riders annually.
By enabling in-route charging, the project is intended to help extend vehicle operating range, reduce downtime, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Procurement And Operational Benefits
The project was completed through the EV Charging Station Equipment and Services cooperative purchasing agreement under NASPO ValuePoint, a national cooperative purchasing program.
DASH said the in-route charging system is expected to improve operational flexibility and support service reliability as additional in-route or depot charging assets are deployed in future phases.
