Sales of light-duty vehicles to government fleets increased 12% to 15,686 units in February compared with the same month a year ago, according to a monthly survey of nine automakers by Automotive Fleet.
Government fleet purchasers continue to make trucks, vans, and SUVs their top priority. That segment grew 21.8% to 11,817 from a year ago. Purchasing of passenger cars fell 10.1% to 3,869 vehicles from a year ago.
Through two months, the OEMs have sold 30,112 vehicles to government fleet buyers for a 16.5% increase from the same period in 2014. Sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs have increased 26.9% so far.
