Fleet professionals from both the public and private sector accepted their Sustainability All-Star awards at the Green Fleet Conference.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS - Government Fleet magazine congratulates the 40 Sustainability All-Stars honored at the Green Fleet Conference on Oct. 4. The fleet professionals were recognized based on professional longevity, accomplishments (significant sustainability achievements), innovation (innovative ways individuals have contributed to reducing emissions and fuel consumption), and overall industry involvement.

Of the 40 All-Stars, 16 of them were public sector fleet professionals:


  • Richard Battersby, director, fleet services, University of California, Davis.

  • Douglas Bond, transportation services managers, Alameda County, Calif.

  • Gerry Calk, fleet officer, City of Austin, Texas.

  • Larry Campbell, CPFP, fleet management director, City of Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Bruce Chesson, alternative fuel program manager, NASA Kennedy Space Center.

  • Wendy Dafoe, senior project leader, National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

  • Dave Head, fleet manager, County of Sonoma, Calif.

  • Robert Howdyshell, director of purchasing & fleet services, County of Riverside, Calif.

  • Ernie Ivy, director, fleet management division, City & County of Denver.

  • George Karbowski, director, operations & maintenance, Foothill Transit, Calif.

  • Keith Leech, fleet manager, City of Sacramento, Calif.

  • Sherry Lewis, director, University of California, Los Angeles, Fleet & Transit

  • Rick Longobart, facilities, fleet & stores manager, City of Santa Ana, Calif.

  • Allen Mitchell, CPFP, fleet manager, Snohomish County, Wash.
