Facing opposition to privatize refuse collection at the City of Quincy, Ill., Mayor Kyle Moore recommended tripling garbage sticker prices to $1.50 and imposing a franchise fee for private haulers.
Moore said this would allow the city to replace seven of its nine refuse trucks; set aside $100,000 per year for vehicle replacement; and replace trucks every two years, reports the Quincy Herald-Whig.
The city faces a $1 million shortfall in the garbage program this fiscal year, along with the need to replace the nine-truck fleet. Moore will seek public feedback before moving forward with any plans, the newspaper reported.
