TINTON FALLS, NJ – Monmouth County has opened a new vehicle wash facility at the County’s Reclamation Center. The wash facility will be used by 53 municipalities and trash haulers in the area. The new facility can recycle the water it uses as part of a pilot project where the recycled water, when it can no longer be used by the washing facility, can be diverted to an 8,000-gallon underground holding tank. From there, the grey water will be used for dust control at a local landfill and on roads.

The County is planning to build two other automated wash facilities, one under construction at the Public Works Complex in Freehold, and the County is reviewing the location for a third facility. The County said that because use of this new facility is shared by a large number of municipalities, it saves taxpayer dollars. In addition, the recycled grey water will allow the County to reduce the amount of potable water it uses, saving tens of thousands of dollars per year, according to the County.

The facility cost $3.4 million and was built by Precise Construction, Freehold, with County Public Works personnel doing some preliminary site work. The engineering on this project was performed by both in-house personnel and Birsdall Services Group Inc., Eatontown.
