University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police and Public Safety has updated the look of its vehicle fleet with new blue-and-gold graphics.

Updated Fleet Graphics

The redesigned vehicles—new patrol cars, SUVs, trucks, and wrapped existing units—feature coordinated UTC branding and updated Mocs colors. UTC Chief of Police and Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Safety Sean O’Brien said the update followed an internal review of fleet needs and campus coverage.

“As we assessed our needs, we saw the need to update our transportation and improve access to different parts of campus,” O’Brien said. He added that the department also wanted to unify its vehicle branding with the university’s broader visual identity.

O’Brien said the changes are also intended to make UTC Police and Public Safety vehicles easier to identify on and around campus.

“For our officers, the patrol car is their office,” he said. “It’s important they have equipment they can take pride in.”

Design And Campus Collaboration

The project was a collaboration between the UTC Department of Public Safety and the Division of Communications and Marketing.

Graphic designer Amy Barker created the designs by reviewing police vehicle markings used by departments nationwide and adapting requirements—such as visible “POLICE” lettering, emergency markings, and vehicle identifiers—to UTC’s color palette. Barker said she developed versions for both light and dark vehicle colors.

“With something like this, there are elements you have to keep consistent,” Barker said. “But there’s flexibility in how you stylize it.”

Barker said vehicle body lines and curves were among the more challenging aspects of placement and alignment for stripes and other design elements. She also worked with Public Safety staff members and officers during the development process.
