The city of Dublin, Ohio, is moving forward with it sustainability goals with the purchase of a Mullen Class 3 electric truck.
“The all-electric Mullen THREE is a perfect application for our use,” said John Hyatt, fleet operations manager, City of Dublin. “For more than a decade, the city of Dublin has been at the forefront of transitioning to electric vehicles and we believe that the Mullen THREE aligns with the city of Dublin’s vision to be the most sustainable fleet nationally.”
Green Efforts for the City of Dublin
Dublin is a city of nearly 50,000 residents located just northwest of Columbus, Ohio. The city is a past Leading Fleets recipient and was awarded a Leading Public Fleet Award for Green Sustainability.
In 2018, the city of Dublin took delivery of its first electric vehicles — four Nissan Leaf battery-electric vehicles — and installed a new connected dual-port charging station.
Now, the city of Dublin has 10 Nissan Leafs. Two are utilized by the city's Justice Department, the other eight are used in the cities motor pool. The city also owns a Ford E-Transit cargo van that is utilized by custodial staff, and a Ford lightning, which is used by several city directors at the Service Complex.
The City Service Complex currently has two dual chargers for city vehicles with plans to install nine additional dual port stations. Eight of these dual ports will be for future city EV acquisitions at the Service Complex with the ninth earmarked for employee charging.
There are plans to purchase several E-Transits and Ford Lightnings over the next several years for the various maintenance departments.
Mullen is in receipt of CARB approval for both 2024 and 2025 Class 3 Model Years.

The Expansion of the City's Charging
The city owns and maintains charging stations at several city buildings which are;
1 dual charging station at the Development Bld.
1 dual charging station at the Justice Center.
2 dual charging stations at City Hall.
1 dual charging station at the Recreation Center.
3 dual charging stations at the city owned parking garage.
2 fast charging stations at the city owned parking garage.
3 dual charging stations at a city owned rental business Bld.
The Incorporation of EVs Into Government Fleets
Mullen is currently negotiating with multiple government agencies to provide its all-electric Class One and Three vehicles, according to Michery. He added that the company will be announcing additional orders over the current fiscal quarter.
The Mullen THREE was recently qualified for a $15,000 incentive through the State of Massachusetts MOR-EV program and a $45,000 cash rebate voucher through the California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program. Mullen’s Class 1 and Class 3 commercial vehicles are both in receipt of Environmental Protection Agency and CARB certifications and in compliance with U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
