Oregon Governor Kate Brown has issued an executive order that sets greenhouse gas emission reduction goals and directs state agencies to enact new measures to lower the state’s greenhouse gas emissions. It updates the existing state carbon emissions goals to reflect current science, setting a standard of 45% reduction from 1990 levels by 2035 and 80% reduction from 1990 levels by 2050.
The executive order directs the Department of Administrative Services to develop a statewide policy and plan for state agencies to follow for procuring zero-emission vehicles. Local governments and special government bodies may use this plan as a model program for furthering the adoption of zero-emission vehicles for their own fleets. The EO allows for participation in cooperative purchasing to meet these goals.
The Department of Transportation is directed to consult the Departments of Energy and Environmental Quality to conduct a statewide needs analysis for transportation electrification infrastructure.
