SHREVEPORT, LA - A new public compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility opened in the City of Shreveport this month, which the City will use to fuel its CNG vehicles.
According to Rod Richardson, director of communications for Mayor Cedric Glover, the City has 16 garbage compactors that run on CNG and plans to convert more as time passes. He stated that 14 buses operated by SporTran, the transit system for Shreveport and nearby Bossier City, run on CNG, and the goal is to make "a full conversion over the next several years."
The Shreveport Times reported that the station was funded by Time-It Lube, a fast lube company, in partnership with Chesapeake Energy Corporation. Chesapeake has committed to fueling its fleet of natural gas vehicles at the Shreveport station in addition to Bossier City stations.
