ROMULUS, MI – The Romulus Police Department will add 16 Dodge Chargers to its fleet, nine of which will be paid for with forfeiture funds-money confiscated by the police department in the apprehension of criminals, according to the Journal Newspapers Online.
The forfeiture fund accounts for almost $200,000 of the $354,000 expenditure, said Mayor Alan Lambert, according to the Journal Newspapers Online. The remaining seven vehicles are accounted for in the 2009-2010 budget.
Deputy Police Chief Michael St. Andre said the cars were needed since all of the cars in the police fleet have between 60,000 and 115,000 miles on them, reported the Journal Newspapers Online.
