Lancaster County Fire Rescue Service in South Carolina has taken delivery of 18 fire and emergency apparatus from Pierce Manufacturing, the second time it has taken delivery of 18 Pierce apparatus. The recent delivery consists of 10 Saber custom pumpers, two Saber pumper/tankers, five rescue trucks, and one dry side tanker.

The fire rescue service chose the vehicles based on equipment quality, interior cab space, and the bid’s overall efficiency, Darren Player, director of the fire rescue, said in a statement.

Lancaster County encompasses urban areas as well as rural and rugged terrain in undeveloped regions. The Fire Rescue Service consists of 18 volunteer fire departments and one career municipal fire department that are overseen by a 19-member fire commission.

The 10 Pierce Saber custom pumpers each feature a 400-hp engine, a 22-inch extended front bumper, a 1500-gpm (gallons per minute) single-stage pump, and lowered crosslays. The pumpers are equipped with the Pierce Husky foam and Hercules compressed air foam systems.

The two Pierce Saber pumper/tankers feature a 450-hp engine, a 1,700-gallon water tank, and carry 1,100 feet of 5-inch hose and 400 feet of 3-inch hose. The pumper/tankers are also equipped with the Pierce Husky foam system.

Other vehicles delivered include five Pierce 16-foot non-walk-in rescue apparatus with full-depth compartments, slide-out toolboards, adjustable shelves, and air bottle storage in the fenders. The eighteenth vehicle delivered is a Pierce dry side tanker with seating for two firefighters, a 2,000-gallon water tank capacity, and a 500-gpm single stage pump.
