Nashville, Tenn., hosted more than 700 fleet professionals gathering for the public fleet industry’s biggest event, the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX), at the Music City Center June 20-23.

One of the biggest benefits of the conference is that it brings fleets together. Those managing fleets of various sizes in cities, counties, federal and state agencies, special districts, and fire and police agencies were present.

“This conference is ‘the conference’ when it comes to networking with your peers. Fleet managers from large fleets, medium fleets, and small fleets across the whole nation come here,” said Don Walker, fleet manager for Ada County (Idaho) Sheriff. “These managers are always ready and willing to share their stories and what they’ve done to be successful in this difficult and challenging industry.”

Lori Noyes, State of Arizona procurement manager, agreed. “As a ‘first timer,’ this conference offered more opportunities to discuss best known methods with other public entities that are facing or overcoming similar difficulties that we have. It’s nice to know we’re not alone in most of our most difficult situations, and there are people out there who can relate and offer successful guidance,” she said.

GFX included a packed show floor where attendees could see the latest technologies and vehicles; motivational speeches; numerous networking opportunities; and 16 educational sessions that covered topics including surviving a municipal bankruptcy, off-road equipment, vehicle replacement backlogs, succession planning, and calculating technician needs. In addition, The Honors Celebration — moved to a night-time event for the first time — allowed the industry to celebrate its brightest stars.

Next year’s GFX will be held June 12-15, 2017 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. Click here for more information.
