LOS ANGELES - Steve Winder, senior stores supervisor at the University of California, Los Angeles' Fleet Maintenance unit, passed away suddenly on August 11. He was 52. Winder had more than 23 years of experience at the University's Fleet & Transit department.

Winder began as a technician at Fleet Services. He was brought in based upon his wide breadth of knowledge and industry expertise in a range of areas. Winder moved into a management role as the fleet began to expand and took on the responsibilities of the Parts Department and other key administrative functions. He became an integral part of the operation and also began to get involved with the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association (MEMA) utilizing his contact base and expanding his industry knowledge, according to Tim Pfrimmer, fleet manager at UCLA.

Winder was a long-time vanpooler, serving as a driver or back-up driver for more than 20 years. He was giving person, always willing to help and assist no matter the issue or level of involvement. Winder was an involved father who wanted to be a part of his children's lives, so he became a troop leader and coach to ensure that he was supportive of his kids.

"Steve has been an asset to UCLA Fleet & Transit Services for a long time and his demeanor both personal and professional will be sorely missed," Pfrimmer said.

Winder is survived by his wife Karen and two children Rebecca and Shaun. He is also survived by his brother, Kevin Winder, who works in Facilities Management.
