The Madisonville, Kentucky, Police Department wants to make its school resource officer (SRO) vehicles stand out. The department opted to add decals to vehicles to reflect the respective schools they serve.

Making Officers Identifiable and Relatable for Students

Madisonville Police Officer Jeff Miller, who works for fleet services for the department, explained to Government Fleet that when the department purchased its fleet of Chevy Tahoes for patrol use, it was able to devote some of its other vehicles in its existing fleet solely to SRO duties. That allowed the department to modify the decals to be school-specific. Miller said the hope is that the vehicles will allow students to relate better to their SROs, and be able to identify them.

The Madisonville Police Department recently purchased new Chevy Tahoe vehicles, like the one pictured here, for its officers.

Each school submitted a logo that will go on the rear of the car. So far, the department has updated five its vehicles' decals to match its respective school's colors and logo. The vehicles used by those SROs include a Dodge Charger and four Ford Taurus models. The department previously devoted a Ford Escape model to the college resource officer for Madisonville Community College when that position was created. Eventually, the department hopes to match all SRO vehicles to their respective schools, as long as there are extra vehicles available.

The SRO vehicles are outfitted with the same equipment as the other patrol vehicles.

The decals were completed by Graphic Design International, LLC.
