The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department conducted its annual vehicle test. Every year, the agency tests patrol cars on a track. The evaluation process includes acceleration and braking tests and a 32 lap dynamics test.

Eleven vehicles were included in this year’s evaluation: the Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU) 3.3L Hybrid, Ford PIU 3.0L EcoBoost AWD, Ford PIU 3.3L AWD, Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan, Ford F-150 Police Responder, Chevrolet Tahoe PPV 4WD, Chevrolet Tahoe PPV 2WD, Dodge Charger V6 RWD, Dodge Charger V8 AWD, Dodge Durango V8 AWD, and Dodge Durango V6 AWD.

The 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility EcoBoost came in first in the acceleration tests, with the fastest 0-60 MPH and 0-100 MPH times, clocking in at 6.1 seconds and 15.32 seconds, respectively. The Ford F-150 Police Responder came in second for the 0-60 MPH test at 6.71 seconds, and the Dodge Charger V8 came in second for the 0-100 MPH test at 16.59 seconds.

For the brake tests, the Dodge Charger V6 came in with the shortest braking distance from 60 MPH at 134.1 feet, followed by the Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan at 140 feet. The Dodge Durango V6 came in with the shortest braking distance of the SUVs at 141.6 feet.

During the 32-lap dynamics, the Ford PIU EcoBoost had the fastest lap time (1:21.89), followed by the Dodge Charger V8 (1:21.97).

The Ford PIU EcoBoost also led the pack during acceleration testing at Michigan State Police’s annual vehicle test in September.
