VALHALLA, NY – SOMS Technologies LLC, a provider of engine oil filtration products, announced that its microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter has been selected as a preferred source offering for all New York state agencies and local government vehicles. New York State Industries for the Disabled Inc. received approval by New York State Office of General Services to provide the filter to government fleets. By installing the microGreen filter, government fleets will reduce oil maintenance costs and will benefit from increased environmental efficiency to help meet sustainability initiatives set by New York Governor, David A. Paterson.

New York Executive Order No. 4 directs state agencies to implement sustainability initiatives and to focus on procurement of green products, such as the microGreen oil filter. The microGreen oil filter combines a conventional filter with a second, patented microfilter system, within a standard spin-on canister. This keeps the oil exceptionally clean and, therefore, it can be used much longer. By installing SOMS' microGreen oil filters, New York State vehicles can operate up to 30,000 miles without an oil change, reducing state vehicle operating costs by up to 65% and protecting the environment by using 70% less oil and minimizing improper waste oil disposal.

New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) and its member PineRidge Industries of Scotia, New York have partnered with SOMS to provide oil filters for New York State fleets. All state agencies and local government entities that purchase goods under the  legislatively-mandated Preferred Source Program can now purchase the microGreen filter directly through NYSID without the hassles of a bidding process. PineRidge, a part of the Schenectady ARC as and a member of NYSID, is a support center for developmentally disabled adults and supports commercial preparation and distribution of the microGreen filter.

"We are extremely pleased that the State of New York Office of General Services has evaluated the microGreen filter and selected it under a Preferred Source contract for purchase by agencies and local procurement managers," said Miles Flamenbaum, CEO of SOMS Technologies. "As a New York State company, we are committed to protecting our environment for all New Yorkers while also reducing taxpayer-supported vehicle expenses. Part of that commitment is working with other New York partners such as PineRidge Industries to support the great service they provide to their local community and across the state."

Andrew J. Grosso, vice president of marketing and sales for NYSID said, "NYSID is pleased to provide government customers with a new product in keeping with recent trends toward environmentally preferred procurement. What's more, we fully support partnerships with New York State businesses and NYSID member agencies in creating more jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities."
