The City of Toledo, Ohio has suspended its fleet managers after an elected official discovered purchases of $7,200 worth of unauthorized exercise equipment in the division.
In addition, Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson has ordered an internal audit of the purchasing processes in the division, the Toledo Blade reported.
Fleet purchased the exercise equipment — a treadmill and two exercise bikes — under the guise of automobile parts. Kevin McCarthy, the city’s commissioner of fleet and facilities, and Mike Bombrys, its fleet manager, were suspended with pay.
