Nationwide protests continue following the death of George Floyd, and while many protesters have been peaceful, violence and vandalism erupted at some locations, causing damage to fleet vehicles — especially police cars.

In Jacksonville, Fla., someone threw a firebomb into the fleet management yard at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Fire Department extinguished the fire, and there was no damage to city vehicles and minimal damage to the grounds, Mayor Lenny Curry said. However, six Sheriff’s Office vehicles were damaged over the weekend.

In New York City, 47 police vehicles had been damaged during protests as of Sunday morning, the New York Times reported. Vehicles were burned, had shattered windshields, and were spray painted.

In Chicago, 90 city vehicles, mostly police cars, were damaged, and about 20 of these were destroyed, according to CBS Chicago.

In Columbus, Ohio, several fire and police vehicles were vandalized and damaged during the protests. Some of the fire trucks were new, and its fire battalion chief told ABC6 that he wasn’t sure how much of the damage could be repaired due to high costs. Police vehicles damaged will be repaired with taxpayer money, but there may be delays in service while the vehicles are out for repairs, the news outlet reported.

In Seattle, Molotov cocktails thrown during the protests ignited several city and private vehicles, and police, transit, and other government vehicles were set on fire, King5 reported.
