Government Fleet has announced the finalists for the 2014 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year award. Judges chose the three finalists from a group of 15 qualified nominees as scoring the highest in 10 categories: business plan, technology implementation, productivity, policies, preventive maintenance program, utilization management, replacement program, customer service, fuel management, and safety.

The judging panel is made up of working public-sector fleet managers from a variety of fleets.

The finalists are:

• Paul Condran, equipment maintenance/fleet manager, City of Culver City, Calif.

• Pete Scarafiotti, MEng, CAFM, CEM, CPFP, director and automotive engineer, City of Mesa, Ariz.

• Roger Weaver, CAFM, CPFP, MBA, fleet management director, San Bernardino County, Calif.

Condran is a leader and strong advocated for alternative fuels, particularly in compressed natural gas (CNG). He redeveloped the fleet’s vehicle replacement scorecard for asset management to improve the city’s fleet utilization and replacement program. Scarafiotti’s accomplishments include the fleet’s successful warranty recovery program, its vendor parts consignment program, and a significant fleet reduction. Weaver facilitated the consolidation of County Fire Vehicle Services and Fleet Management for increased labor and equipment efficiency as well as estimated annual savings of $350,000.

Industry professionals nominate fleet managers for this award, and candidates are asked to fill out a questionnaire for judging purposes. The 15 qualified nominees for this year are:

• Rick Longobart, facilities, fleet & central stores manager, City of Santa Ana, Calif.

• Julie Lyons, fleet & facility services manager, City of Anaheim, Calif.

• Dan Miller, fleet manager, Sacramento County, Calif.

• Kelly Reagan, fleet administrator, City of Columbus, Ohio

• Dennis Scamardo, CAFM, fleet manager, Monterey County, Calif.

• Pete Scarafiotti, MEng, CAFM, CEM, CPFP, director and automotive engineer, City of Mesa, Ariz.

• Jeff Tews, CPFP, fleet operations manager, City of Milwaukee, Wis.

• Denny Traylor, fleet manager, City of Houston, Texas

• Roger Weaver, CAFM, CPFP, MBA fleet management director, San Bernardino County, Calif.
