Keith Leech, previously fleet manager for the City of Sacramento, is now the chief of Sacramento County's Fleet Division & Parking Enterprise. He started the new position on Jan. 26  and replaced James Collins, who retired in 2014.

The county fleet maintains 3,000 units, and Leech will oversee 94 fleet employees, seven parking employees, a $50 million annual operating budget, and a $13 million capital outlay budget. There are seven maintenance facilities and seven downtown parking facilities.

Leech will be working on several fleet projects for the county. It is scheduled to open a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in April. Leech will explore opportunities with county customer departments to migrate diesel trucks to CNG where feasible. The county is also set to implement a pilot telematics program on 100 vehicles, enhance its AssetWorks M5 system functionality and reporting capabilities, and seek grant opportunities to demo advanced technology plug-in trucks, Leech said.

At the city, Leech managed an award-winning fleet, both in operations and fleet greening. It is also the first government fleet in the U.S. to fuel its trucks with renewable natural gas produced from organic waste, Leech said. The city fleet consists of 2,300 units and employees 83 people at five maintenance locations. The operating budget totaled $37 million.

The city is currently recruiting for the vacated fleet manager role.
