After months of low numbers, monthly government fleet sales have finally beaten out vehicle sales from 2024. Government fleet sales saw a 15.6% increase from 18,697 vehicles in September 2024 to 21,616 vehicles sold last month.

Overall Monthly Increase for September

While not taking the place of the month with the most monthly sales — that award goes to May with 22,129 fleet sales — September had one of the highest numbers compared to the rest of 2025. [Government fleet totals included only numbers from Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Mazda. Five of the six major Asian-based automakers did not report any monthly government fleet sales].

Despite the overall increase, September car sales plunged 95% from 821 vehicles sold in 2024 to only 39 last month. Truck and SUV sales brought the number up with 21,577 sales in September compared to the 18,697 vehicles sold in September 2024.

Government Fleet Sales Year-to-Date

Vehicle sales YTD are still not caught up with 2024 numbers. YTD, there has been a reported total of 180,967 vehicle sold, down 14.3% from 2024's 211,278 numbers. Cars have the biggest gap with only 873 sold so far, which is an 84.4% decrease from the 4,735 sold during this time last year. Trucks and SUVs are down 12.4%, going from 5,608 to 873 YTD.
