The Sonoma County (Calif.) General Services Fleet Operations Division was presented with two California Green Business Certifications from the Sonoma Green Business Program on Friday, November 20. The certifications validate the county’s commitment to operating fleet maintenance and car wash facilities through environmentally and sustainable practices that conserve resources and save money.

The Fleet Operations Division practices were measured against 226 individual criteria with the process including phone interviews and onsite assessments to verify that Green Business standards are being met before earning each of the certifications.

This year, the California Green Business Program certified businesses have achieved the following environmental outcomes:

  • Over 800,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced

  • Enough kilowatt-hours saved to power 25,000 houses for an entire year

  • Over 400,000 metric tons of waste diverted from the landfill

  • 124 million gallons of water saved

  • Over 28,000 gallons of hazardous waste eliminated

Over the last five years the Fleet Operations Division has earned the county 26 international, national, state, regional, and local awards in the areas of Fleet Management, Environmental and Economic Leadership, Sustainability, Emissions Reductions, Efficiency & Renewable Energy, Emergency Management, Transportation Efficiency Innovations, and as a Leading Fleet in the industry championing clean air for all residents of Sonoma County.
