The take-home vehicles given to St. Louis elected officials have been called into question with voters in the city set to approve a $180-million bond that includes money to replace city fleet vehicles, reports the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
The media outlet has questioned the city-provided perk for Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Comptroller Darlene Green, License Collector Mavis Thompson and Sheriff Jim Murphy.
A city policy allows elected officials to have "new, well-equipped, full-size sedans" that may include "luxury packages."
In August, voters will decide whether to approve the bond for a variety of infrastructure improvements, including upgraded equipment and vehicles for fire and police. The bond will be funded by a tax increase. Mayor Francis Slay has said none of the money would go for cars to elected officials.
