The Nashville, Tennessee, Department of Transportation (NDOT) has purchased a street sweeper to keep its bicycle lanes clean. NDOT is currently mapping routes using a routing software for the new Dulevo 850 sweeper.
The city currently conducts manual sweeping in protected bikeways. The sweeper was purchased as part of the city's WalknBike 2022 plan, a five-year update to Nashville's sidewalks and bikeways. The plan includes 148 miles of bikeways and 23 miles of sidewalks. WalknBike 2022 is designed to make Nashville more walkable and bikeable, as it sees explosive growth.
Staff are training on the sweeper, and using it on an as-needed basis. The city hopes to roll out the new maintenance program in the next month or so.
The city is also running a naming contest for the street sweeper. The final four choices are as follows: Joclean, Patsy Clean, Hub Litter Bug (a reference to Nashville's 311 system), and Demonbroomin (a reference to a street name in Nashville called Demonbreun Street.
