KILLEEN, TX – Fort Hood is equipping 25 of its on-base military police vehicles with Energy Xtreme's mobile electric power idle reduction systems. According to the company, fuel savings are projected at more than $110,000 annually. The company added that the police cruisers are 2008, 2009, and 2010-MY Chevrolet Impala sedans.

The mobile electric power idle reduction system is a smart power management device that provides power without turning on the engine to vehicles. For Fort Hood, the system allows officers to use each equipped police cruiser's full electrical systems, which includes lights, an onboard camera, a computer and a radio, without having to idle the vehicle's engine for at least four continuous hours. The system automatically recharges while the vehicle is driven, is silent, and doesn’t leave a heat trace.

Fort Hood is a member of the Central Texas Clean Cities program and has developed partnerships with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Department of Health to meet alternative fuel vehicle goals and mandates.
