After the Barrow County commission denied Sheriff Jud Smith’s request for an additional $547,000 for fuel, fleet maintenance, and overtime, Smith said he wouldn’t have money to fuel patrol vehicles, the Barrow County News reported.
The commission voted to provide $50,000 as a contingency until Smith could provide more details at the next meeting, in two weeks. Last year, the Sheriff’s Office spent $158,000 on fleet maintenance, but only $50,000 was budgeted this year.
