Chicago Gets $1M to Reduce Diesel Emissions

CHICAGO - The EPA recovery act funds will be used to purchase and install 35 diesel oxidation catalysts and 163 diesel-fired heaters on municipal vehicles, and partially fund two new hybrid diesel-electric aerial trucks to replace older vehicles.

CHICAGO- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has awarded $1 million for projects to cut emissions and fuel usage from the City of Chicago's diesel fleet.

The funds are provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program. Under this funding competition, EPA Region 5 alone received 81 grant applications requesting more than $211 million to help fund clean diesel emissions projects.

EPA funds will be used to purchase and install 35 diesel oxidation catalysts and 163 diesel-fired heaters on municipal vehicles, and partially fund two new hybrid diesel-electric aerial trucks to replace older vehicles.
